June–August 2026 | My Box Office
The West End gets all the headlines, but some of the most exciting theatre in London this summer is happening just beyond Theatreland — in converted warehouses, riverbank venues, open-air parks, and intimate studio spaces where the audience is close enough to feel every word.
Whether you're after boundary-pushing new plays, cult musicals, Shakespeare under the stars, or immersive Agatha Christie, here's our pick of the best Off West End shows to see before summer's out.
1. Glengarry Glen Ross — The Old Vic
The one with an all-female cast and Olivier Award winners
David Mamet's razor-sharp drama about desperate salesmen gets a thrilling reinvention at the Old Vic this summer — with the first-ever all-female cast. Led by Olivier Award winner Indira Varma and Alita: Battle Angel star Rosa Salazar, this production promises to be one of the most talked-about shows of the season.
If you thought you knew Glengarry Glen Ross, think again.
2. The Misanthrope — National Theatre (Lyttelton)
The one starring Sandra Oh
Killing Eve's Sandra Oh makes her National Theatre debut in a contemporary reimagining of Molière's classic comedy of manners. Sharp, funny, and featuring one of the most compelling screen actors of her generation making a long-awaited return to the stage — this is a must.
3. Much Ado About Nothing — Shakespeare's Globe
The one for a proper summer evening out
There are few better ways to spend a warm London evening than watching Shakespeare's best comedy performed outdoors at the Globe. Pippa Nixon and Ken Nwosu star as the sparring, hopelessly-in-love Beatrice and Benedick in this season's production.
Grab a drink, stand in the yard, and let London's most beloved theatre venue do the rest.
4. Witness for the Prosecution — London County Hall
The one in an extraordinary venue
Agatha Christie's courtroom thriller is performed inside the magnificent former council chamber of London County Hall — an immersive experience where the audience becomes the jury. On the south bank of the Thames with views of the Houses of Parliament, this is theatre as a full evening out.
Running all summer and consistently one of the most unique shows in London.
5. Equus — Menier Chocolate Factory
The one that will stay with you
Peter Shaffer's electrifying psychological drama — about a psychiatrist trying to understand why a stable boy has committed a disturbing act — returns to London at the intimate Menier Chocolate Factory. Intense, provocative, and unlike anything else on the London stage this summer.
The Menier is one of those spaces where proximity to the action makes everything hit harder.
6. An Ideal Husband — Lyric Hammersmith
The one for Oscar Wilde fans
Oscar Wilde's comedy of political scandal and social hypocrisy gets a fresh outing at the Lyric Hammersmith this summer. Witty, elegant, and wickedly funny — it's the perfect antidote to any summer news cycle.
7. Ride the Cyclone — Southwark Playhouse
The one that's a cult musical sensation
A small-town Canadian choir dies in a freak rollercoaster accident and each ghost gets one shot at returning to life. Ride the Cyclone is darkly comic, musically inventive, and has been building a devoted following since its Off-Broadway run. Catch it at Southwark Playhouse before word really gets out.
8. Whodunnit [Unrehearsed] 4 — Park Theatre
The one with surprise celebrity guests
Each performance of Whodunnit [Unrehearsed] features a rotating cast of celebrity guests performing an Agatha Christie-style mystery they've never seen before — mistakes, fluffed lines and all. This summer's series already includes Michelle Dockery and Romesh Ranganathan in the mix.
The most fun you can have at the theatre without knowing what's going to happen — and neither do the cast.
9. A Midsummer Night's Dream — Regent's Park Open Air Theatre
The one for midsummer magic
Regent's Park Open Air Theatre is in full swing this summer, and A Midsummer Night's Dream — opening 20 June — is one of the season's centrepieces. Fairy lights, warm evenings, and Shakespeare's most enchanting comedy in one of London's most beautiful outdoor settings. Take a picnic.
10. Come Alive! The Greatest Showman Circus Spectacular — Empress Museum
The one the kids (and adults) will love
Based on the hit film, this circus spectacular brings acrobats, aerialists, and the iconic soundtrack to life in an immersive venue format. Great for families, birthday groups, or anyone who's been quietly humming This Is Me for six years and wants an excuse to embrace it fully.
Why Off West End?
Off West End theatres — from the National Theatre and the Old Vic to the Menier Chocolate Factory and Southwark Playhouse — are where London's most adventurous theatre gets made. Productions are often more intimate, tickets are usually more affordable, and you're frequently seeing something before it transfers to a bigger stage or wins an Olivier.
